Making a custom wedding dress in just 6 weeks is no small feat, and I am thoroughly impressed by the incredible skill, talent and dedication that Jeff put into creating my beautiful dress. Not only does it look stunning, but it also fits like a dream. Every detail has been carefully thought out and executed with precision, from the stitching to the fabric choice. It is clear that Jeff has a genuine passion for creating beautiful wedding gowns, and he should be incredibly proud of what he’s accomplished.

I don’t even know where to begin. Jeff was such a dream and I’m so grateful my mom found him. I knew the dress I wanted and it was the only one I had tried on. Unfortunately, my “dream dress” would never have fit properly. The shop told me they would need to send it back to the original designer, deconstruct and reconstruct the top half, and the charges were unknown but I was likely going to pay a total of $10,000…at least. The odds of it coming back and not fitting perfectly? Also likely. I walked out of the shop knowing there was no way I was buying my favourite dress at that price and with that uncertainty. It was a few months before the wedding and I was not sure what to do next.
When my mom sent me Jeff’s website I was overjoyed. Finally! Someone who understands that all women’s bodies are different and can create a beautiful, custom piece no matter your body type. I was so excited by the examples online. Every person who had a dress by Jeff looked stunning. Even with my shorter timeline, he was ecstatic to work with us.
Jeff created a dream. It fit like a glove. The fabric was delicate and lightweight and beautiful. The dress was absolutely everything I imagined and truly, more. He added small details and pieces and cuts that made it fit perfect and look incredible. The whole night everyone was raving about the dress and I have a list of friends who can’t wait to use Jeff when they get married.
Jeff is so wonderful, kind, and attentive. He listens to all your wishes and knows what will look best and has amazing recommendations. Believe it or not, I was probably one of the only brides not looking forward to wedding dress shopping. I didn’t like the idea of trying on dresses while friends and family rated how I looked in them. However, I did go to a few places and tried on dresses that either didn’t do up or we’re too big. It was hard to get an idea of what the dress would look like in my size and the only way to do that was to place an order. While shopping for dresses I recognized the same lace, patterns and shapes that many of the brides I’ve seen wear at their weddings.
Dress shopping wasn’t quite all it was cracked up to be, until one of my clients referred me to the VERY talented Jeff MacKinnon.
When my mom and I arrived at his place, he was friendly, kind and extremely humble for being such a good designer. He showed us his portfolio with celebrities like Gigi Hadid wearing his dresses and we chatted over tea about when he was on Project Runway Canada. He explained the world of fashion and wedding dresses to us, which only made us want to support a self-made designer more. I went through a few photos and options and together we chose the dress of my dreams. People have asked if I was nervous about not seeing the final product, but I wasn’t, after seeing his work and getting to know him, I knew I was in good hands and Jeff would do anything to make his brides happy.
I saw Jeff 5 times and my dress was complete! He would send me photos of fabrics he was looking at while he was shopping in Toronto. He built the dress piece by piece on my body and explained what he was doing and the fit was perfect. There was no need for alterations. When we saw the hand sewn beading on the top, we were blown away by the detail. He explained and showed me all the fabrics, shape and colour for the skirt, it was so cool to see and know every process of making the dress and how much hard work goes into it.
I would recommend Jeff MacKinnon to every bride out there. You can literally show him a designer photo or create a dress with him and he will make it happen. He made the fittings comfortable, fun and exciting. All my friends wanted to come to the fittings just to meet him!

I tried on almost every gown in Toronto to realize there wasn't one that I really loved so I decided to have one made. I have never had a custom gown made before my wedding gown, I'm sure this is true for most women. The idea of adding a custom gown to your list of one million things you already need to accomplish for your wedding, can seem like a daunting task, or so I thought. Jeff was able to guide me through this experience with ease due to his knowledge and patience. If given the opportunity I would do it again in a heartbeat.
Jeff's attention to detail is what made my gown so breathtaking, from the long train, the oh so many layers of tulle, the perfectly hip hugging fitted bottom, to the beautifully detailed and perfectly placed lace appliqué. This is definitely a red carpet worthy gown.

I was super excited to go wedding dress shopping but quickly got discouraged with everything that I was seeing. After several shops and dozens of dresses, I found an Oscar de la Renta dress that I absolutely loved. But not only would the designer not alter the cup sizes (even with a larger dress size), the dress was way over my budget at $7000.
I sent photos to Jeffrey and met with him and he assured me that he could make that exact dress for less than half the cost of the original. Not only did he use the same silk fabric but he tailored the dress to fit my shape exactly. The dress was perfect! I couldn’t have imagined wearing anything else to my wedding. I am still so in love with the dress and I wish I could wear it again!

Not only did you design the perfect gown, mixing both a modern and traditional look, you took such great care when making it using my mother’s wedding dress and went the extra mile to clean the lace so it looked perfect.
