Fashion and Design have been in my blood for as long as I can remember. As a child my mother would bring me along when she was modelling and had runway shows. I can still recall all the beauty and excitement backstage as everyone was getting ready and transforming before my eyes. It wasn't long after that I began learning how to stitch things together and sew.
That fascination continued to grow and led me to attend prestigious Ryerson University and graduate with a Degree in Fashion Design. That was over 25 years ago and I have been in the fashion industry ever since. Along the way I've had the opportunity to work with many of Canada's Top Designers, including Brian Bailey, Wayne Clark, Ines Di Santo and Rita Vinieris.
I have worked on countless numbers of collections throughout the years, probably a thousand gowns, all shown to salon buyers, press and media from around the world at NYC Bridal Weeks.
Working, learning and creating alongside internationally renowned designers throughout my career has afforded me the opportunity to develop and refine my knowledge, skills and aesthetic to an uncompromisingly high level.
My designs have been in major bridal magazines and featured in ad campaigns, editorials, magazine covers, and include having a gown featured on the cover of ‘the knot’ - one of my proudest career achievements.
Professionally my reputation has been built on my expertise with impeccable fit and tailoring, understanding of fine fabrics and finishes, and my attention to detail.
I can create virtually any look, feel or silhouette. I have worked for decades with the most luxurious silk fabrics, beautiful imported laces and delicately beaded embroideries. I have relationships with some of the industry’s top suppliers and fabric mills, the same one's used by other top designers. I prefer working with natural and silk fabrics for their unparalleled beauty and luxury.
Having a gown featured on the cover of ‘the knot’ is one of my proudest career achievements.
My knowledge and passion for Design & Couture led me to develop my own label, Jeffrey James.
Under the label I really enjoy working one-on-one with brides to create an unforgettable Couture Experience and a custom made gown that fits to perfection.
After decades of creating collections with companies and retail stores, I find it extremely rewarding working directly with clients.
It's such an honour to play a small part in their big occasion and contribute to their joy, knowing they looked beautiful and felt confident.
